This week we had a guest speaker talk about Sherwin-Williams paint with us and talk to us about paint. Something that I did not know before was that paint has 3 different purposes: it protects against things like weather, stains, and rot. Paint also is used for aesthetic reasons, and it also can do things that I had no idea about before, like air purifying and sanitizing self-cleaning. We also learned how, while not always necessary, using a primer before painting is a good idea; it can help the paint stick to the wall and make it last longer. Like paint, there are lots of different types of primer, and you have to make sure that you use the right type for your project.  primer There are 5 different types of binders in paint that we talked about. alkyd, latex, acrylic, epoxy, and urethane.  Alkyd is an oil-based paint; it has a smooth finish and is normally used in interiors.  Latex is a water-based paint and is used in interiors, but you shouldn't use it in extreme envir...

Emphasis, Proportion/Scale, and Rhythm

This week we learned about emphasis, proportion, scale, and rhythm, which are all important when designing a space.  emphasis   Emphasis is very important; it can be used to create a focal point or a point of interest in a room, which is important to create a good space. room with a clear focal point proportion and scale  Proportion and scale have to do with the size of things. For example, you don't want a tiny table with giant chairs; it wouldn't work. Proportion and scale help make sure that things are the right size. It can also change the size of other things in the room; the chairs being super big would make everything else in the room feel smaller. room out of scale rhythm   Rhythm can be achieved through repetition and is an important element of design. It is created when shapes, colors, lines, or patterns are repeated in a way that moves someone around the room; it can also create movement in the room.  room using rhythm 

Balance, Unity, and Symmetry

 Balance, Unity, and Symmetry This week we learned about balance, unity, and symmetry, which are all very important when designing something. Balance Balance is the visual weight of a room. If your room is much heavier on one side compared to the other, the room is unbalanced. Here is a picture of both. unbalance  balanced  symmetry There are 3 different types of symmetry: normal symmetry, asymmetry, and radial symmetry. Radial symmetry is the most basic of the three, with it just being that both sides of the room are the same.
