Emphasis, Proportion/Scale, and Rhythm

This week we learned about emphasis, proportion, scale, and rhythm, which are all important when designing a space.

emphasis

Emphasis is very important; it can be used to create a focal point or a point of interest in a room, which is important to create a good space.

proportion and scale

Proportion and scale have to do with the size of things. For example, you don't want a tiny table with giant chairs; it wouldn't work. Proportion and scale help make sure that things are the right size. It can also change the size of other things in the room; the chairs being super big would make everything else in the room feel smaller.

rhythm

Rhythm can be achieved through repetition and is an important element of design. It is created when shapes, colors, lines, or patterns are repeated in a way that moves someone around the room; it can also create movement in the room.

  1. Moriah,
Excellent Blog this week. I loved your opening image that showed emphasis with a gorgeous light fixture. The room out of scale was perfect. I also, loved the room showing proper rhythm. Missed seeing your sketch this week. Great Blog? 50/50 points
